In a historic first, FIFA has announced that the winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive custom-made championship rings, adding a new symbol of triumph to the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy and traditional gold medals.
The initiative marks the first time in the tournament’s 96-year history that World Cup champions will be awarded championship rings, bringing one of North America’s most recognizable sporting traditions to global football.
According to FIFA, 30 bespoke rings will be presented to members of the victorious team. Temporary ceremonial rings will be handed to the captain and coach immediately after the final, while the personalized versions will be produced afterward to reflect the identity of the winning nation. Each ring will feature the FIFA World Cup Trophy on one side and team-specific details on the other.
The championship rings are part of a limited edition of 2,026 individually numbered pieces, commemorating the 2026 tournament. While 30 are reserved for the champions, the remaining 1,996 rings will be made available worldwide as officially licensed collectibles for football fans.
The announcement comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final, where Spain and Argentina will battle for football’s biggest prize on Sunday, July 19, at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
While many fans have welcomed the innovation as a unique way to celebrate the world champions, others have questioned whether it represents an unnecessary American influence on football traditions.
Regardless of the debate, the 2026 champions will make history by becoming the first national team ever to lift the FIFA World Cup Trophy while also receiving championship rings.
