Veteran Nollywood actor, Francis Duru, has reportedly died following a brief illness.
The news was announced few minutes ago on his verified Instagram account, @francis.duru, on Thursday.
The statement read:
“We, the family of Francis Duru, regret to announce his passing following a brief illness. We appreciate your prayers, love, and understanding. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”
As at press time, further details surrounding his passing were not disclosed.
Duru was one of Nollywood’s most familiar faces, with a career spanning over three decades. He rose to prominence for his role as Ahanna in the classic film _Rattlesnake_ and went on to become one of the actors who defined the industry’s formative years.
He remained active on screen and was beloved by audiences across generations for his versatility and calm disposition.
It would be recalled that in June 2026, the actor publicly debunked viral reports claiming he was seriously ill, describing the reports as false and misleading and assuring fans he was well.
The actor also suffered a personal tragedy in August 2024 when he lost his 15-year-old son, Ifeanyi.
