Nigeria, my beloved nation,
A land chosen of the Lord, blessed beyond description.
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His inheritance.” (Psalm 33:12)
You are a nation seated upon treasures of oil, fertile lands, and abundant human talent. Yet, how is it that your wealth enriches only a few, while multitudes suffer lack?
“If you see the poor oppressed in a district, and justice and rights denied, do not be surprised at such things…” (Ecclesiastes 5:8)
If not for the Lord who has been our keeper, Nigeria would have been swallowed by chaos.
“If the Lord had not been on our side… the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us.” (Psalm 124:1–5)
Truly, His mercies have held us together, though storms of corruption, bloodshed, and division raged.
Nigeria, a land flowing with milk and honey (Deuteronomy 8:7–9),
Yet so many die in hunger, stripped of dignity.
How did we fall so far?
Once, your currency stood tall among nations; today, it bows in shame.
Once, your cultural heritage commanded admiration; today, insecurity casts a shadow.
Each time I see your citizens flown abroad for healing, my soul weeps:
Is healing meant only for the rich?
“Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?” (Jeremiah 8:22)
Leaders have traded truth for lies, using religion and tribe as weapons to divide.
“Your rulers are rebels, partners with thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow’s case does not come before them.” (Isaiah 1:23)

Our children are growing; is this the example we want them to inherit?
We say they are leaders of tomorrow, but what seeds are we planting today?
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
Oh Nigeria, who bewitched you? (Galatians 3:1)
Who chained you in the fetters of greed, oppression, and corruption?
Do we not see that division weakens us, while the greedy grow stronger in their schemes?
Yet, I believe! ✨
The Lord will not leave us desolate.
He will raise selfless men and women, righteous leaders who will stand in the gap.
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land…” (Ezekiel 22:30)
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan.” (Proverbs 29:2)
I am tempted to say Happy Independence, but how free are we from the yoke of corruption, oppression, and selfishness?
True freedom comes not from flags or ceremonies but from Christ alone.
“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
Oh Nigerians, let us not despair. In our little corners, let us rise to build.
Let us stop waiting for Nigeria to change without us changing.
Like Nehemiah, let us say:
“Come, let us rebuild the wall… and we will no longer be in disgrace.” (Nehemiah 2:17–18)
Yes, we are stagnant, but God’s Word assures us of hope:
“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
So today, I cry, I pray, I plead:
Lord, heal Nigeria.
Do not be angry with us forever. Though corruption shouts louder than justice, let mercy prevail.
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22–23)
At 65, I bless you, Nigeria.
May your tomorrow be greater than your yesterday.
May righteousness and justice once again be your foundation.
“Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.” (Psalm 85:10)
Happy Independence, my beloved country. 🇳🇬
I still believe one day, righteousness will exalt you.
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.” (Proverbs 14:34)
And God will restore your greatness for the sake of the righteous.
BLESSING AMOS
ABUJA
