With Nigeria’s 2027 elections approaching, voters are being encouraged to look beyond campaign rallies, posters and promises when assessing candidates.
A four-step framework recommends examining a candidate’s track record, manifesto, implementation plan and likely impact on citizens.
First, voters should verify the candidate’s relevant experience and previous record rather than relying on name recognition or campaign publicity.
Second, they should examine the candidate’s official manifesto for specific proposals on key issues such as security, food prices and the economy.
Third, the focus should shift to implementation. Voters can assess whether proposed policies include clear timelines, measurable targets and identified government institutions responsible for delivery.
Finally, voters should consider how the proposed policies could translate into practical outcomes for households, including their potential effect on living standards.
The framework provides a structured approach for evaluating campaign claims based on documented experience, policy proposals and implementation details.
#TrackingNaija2027Elections is a collaborative project by CEREDEMS-AFRICA, University of Ilorin and RUDN University Institute of Geopolitical Communications, tracking electoral integrity and risks ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
