The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties and candidates account for the largest shares of stakeholder expressions of confidence in security agencies ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, according to the first-month tracking report by CEREDEMS-Africa.
The report, titled Confidence in Security by Actor Type, analysed 36 observations gathered since August 19, 2026, as part of the #TrackingNaija2027Elections project.
INEC accounted for 33.33% of the recorded expressions, followed by political parties at 25% and candidates at 16.66%. Other actors represented 11.11%, government institutions 5.55%, while CSOs/NGOs and campaign organisations each accounted for 2.77%.
The findings highlight differences in how stakeholder categories express confidence in security agencies’ ability to perform their duties impartially before, during and after the elections.
CEREDEMS-Africa called for constructive dialogue and meaningful engagement among stakeholders to strengthen confidence in an impartial and credible electoral security system ahead of the 2027 polls.
