FIFA has officially confirmed that the halftime break during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final will last 17 minutes, longer than the traditional 15-minute interval, to accommodate the tournament’s first-ever halftime entertainment show.
According to FIFA, the musical performances will run for 11 minutes, while the remaining six minutes will be used to set up and dismantle the stage, as well as water the pitch to ensure optimal playing conditions before the second half resumes.
The move is part of FIFA’s efforts to enhance the fan experience by introducing a Super Bowl-style halftime show, a first in the history of the FIFA World Cup.
The 2026 final, scheduled for Sunday, July 19, at the New York New Jersey Stadium, will see Spain take on Argentina in a blockbuster showdown for football’s biggest prize.
While many supporters have welcomed the addition of a global music performance to the World Cup final, others have expressed concerns that extending the halftime break could affect players’ rhythm and the flow of the game.
FIFA, however, insists that the revised schedule has been carefully planned to balance world-class entertainment with the sporting spectacle, ensuring that the pitch is restored and players are ready for the second half.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final is expected to make history not only for crowning a new world champion but also for introducing several innovations, including the first-ever halftime show and newly introduced championship rings for the winning team.
