Political parties and electoral institutions dominate public discussions on conflict-resolution mechanisms ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections, with limited visibility for grassroots actors, according to the latest #TrackingNaija2027Elections analysis by CEREDEMS-Africa.
The tracking examined 177 observations from Nigerian newspapers and broadcast media (2024–2026) and social media (2026). Political parties accounted for 33.33% of the discourse, followed by the electoral management body at 16.94%, candidates at 10.73%, judiciary/legal actors at 10.16% and government institutions at 9.03%.
CSOs/NGOs accounted for 5.08%, citizens/voters 3.38%, media organisations 2.82%, campaign organisations 2.82%, security agencies 1.12% and religious leaders 0.56%.
The findings indicate that discussions around electoral conflict management are concentrated among political and formal institutional actors, while groups with potential roles in grassroots mediation and early warning receive comparatively little attention.
CEREDEMS-Africa called for broader participation in conflict-management efforts, including traditional institutions, faith leaders, women and youth groups, security agencies, civil society and the media, with clearly defined roles ahead of the 2027 elections.
